Matthew Hatcher (born: February 11, 1991) is a documentary photographer currently living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He earned a bachelor's degree in photojournalism from the Ohio University Scripps School of Visual Communications in 2014. Having worked for almost a decade with newspapers in Ohio and Indiana, he now operates as a full-time freelance photographer covering national and international news stories for clients such as Getty Images, Bloomberg News, The Wall Street Journal, and many others.
Since freelancing Matthew Hatcher has covered The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, the Pro-Democracy Movement in Hong Kong, and the 2020 Pandemic and election season notably.
Since 2019 he has covered the Ukraine-Russia War with a focus on how the conflict impacts the daily lives of Ukrainians and the lasting impacts of the war.
His images have been published in hundreds of publications around the world, and in 2020 his photographs from the Pro-Democracy Movement in Hong Kong were featured in the book ‘The Nature of Water’.
Outside of photography, Matthew is an avid and published writer of both news stories and poetry. Currently, he is based in Philadelphia and is available for both commercial and news assignments.
